Austria is really pretty, too, but I didn’t warm to it in the same way as Germany. I’d been to Austria once before and I had the same feeling then, too.
I can only explain it like this: In Australia on the Hume Highway in Albury there is a road-side restaurant called Vienna World. It is decorated with plastic Tiffany lamps and serves bad coffee and apple strudel. Every time I’m in Austria I have the strangest feeling that I have been transported to Vienna World – it all seems fake – even though the strudel is better.
This is the monastry in Melk.
It’s over the top Baroque and I didn’t like it that much.
I thought this skeleton was a bit wierd.
But I liked these stairs.
And the gardens were nice, too.
